In so many different ways, we have given much to the world, and I am personally delighted to be part of the Tartan Week events that showcase the best of contemporary Scotland. I hope to see it grow from strength to strength in the coming years so that our families and friends can see April 6th as a great day for Scotland in the global community.
Brian Cox International actor and first Scotland’s Tartan Day International Ambassador 2005

Just not sure if calling the event "Tartan Day" is the way to go about it. Scotland was, and is, so much more than the "tartan and shortbread" image so often portrayed. But I do salute the effort that's being made and wholeheartedly support the aims of Tartan Day.

How many of our American cousins realise this document gave rise to their own Declaration of Independence and that the ruins of the abbey in which it was penned still dominate the town? As well as Edinburgh and St Andrews, Arbroath should be on the itinerary of any American visitor to Scotland.

Comment: I have Scottish ancestors some two hundred years back in our family history. After going to a family reunion where one person wore a kilt instead of a tuxedo I realised that I also had a reason never to wear a cumberband ever again. Since then I've always worn a kilt on the most formal occasions and always with good results. It's always pleasant to wear a kilt.
