Peter Pan Flies in to Arbroath for Tartan Day Film Festival
Issued: 9 April 2010
Film fans were in for a treat at the Webster Theatre on Wednesday, April 7, when the Tartan Day Film Festival featured two classic films: Walt Disney's 'Peter Pan' and 'Whisky Galore!'
'Peter Pan' was shown in the afternoon and, as well as enjoying watching Peter Pan on the big screen, the younger members of the audience were thrilled to meet Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook. "My granddaughter, Safi, loved the film," said Wendy Aston. "She was enthralled all the way through."
'Whisky Galore!' was equally well-appreciated. The evening was sponsored by Brechin distillery Glencadam and, to help get everyone in the mood for a film with such a strong whisky theme, started with a tasting of two malts and a fascinating talk on the history of Scotland's national drink and Glencadam Distillery, which was established in 1825.
"The Film Festival is one of many additional attractions added to our Tartan Day programme of events," said the Provost of Angus, Ruth Leslie Melville. "It certainly fulfilled its aim of providing another way for the people of Angus to join in with the festivities. And, with 2010 being the 150th anniversary of the birth of JM Barrie, it was very appropriate that we are able to screen this popular version of Barrie's tale about the boy who never grew up."
The Tartan Day celebrations are an Angus Council tourism and community initiative. The Angus celebrations now extend to a week, from April 2 until April 10, with over 50 events taking place across the county.
