Angus Celebrations at the Heart of Tartan Day Scotland 2011
Issued: 5 April 2011
Angus will be at the heart of Scotland's Tartan Day celebrations this week.
A host of activities and events are taking place across Angus this year as part of the drive to attract visitors and stimulate business.
Provost of Angus Ruth Leslie Melville said the host of international visitors to the annual celebrations would receive a warm welcome from Angus.
"As well as having a fantastic range of local community events, Angus is at the very heart of Scotland's Tartan Day celebrations around 6 April every year," said the Provost.
Commenting on the opportunities Tartan Day offers, Provost Leslie Melville said: "Once again we will be playing to one of our key tourism strengths and are hosting, among other things, an international golf challenge alongside business events.
"Our experience from previous years is that from these events opportunities for spin-off activities, return visits and commercial enterprises can be created.
"Tartan Day puts a focus on Angus and the council is taking the opportunity to make international and business connections, between sectors such as tourism, transport and renewable energy - all with the aim of building a secure economic future for Angus.
"Whether our Tartan Day visitors are attracted by Carnoustie Country's famous fairways or Arbroath Abbey's extraordinary heritage, we are looking forward to welcoming and sharing with them the many attractions of Angus."
Angus Council has championed Tartan Day in Scotland with the international day of celebration on the 6 April marking the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320.
