What's Cooking? The Search Begins for the Best Local Recipes in Angus to Feature at the Tartan Day Scotland Gala Dinner
Issued: 9 February 2010
The search is on across Angus for the best local recipe - whether it's a family favourite passed down the generations, a traditional dish with a contemporary twist or a totally unique eating concept based on locally-sourced ingredients.
As part of the build-up to the Tartan Day Angus 2010 celebrations, the chosen recipe will feature on the menu at the Tartan Day Scotland Gala Dinner, which highlights the very best of Scotland. "The dishes served during the Tartan Day Scotland Gala Dinner are a wonderful showcase for our talented local chefs and top quality, fresh ingredients," said the Provost of Angus, Ruth Leslie Melville.
"However, I'm only too aware that local families enjoy the excellent produce of our county in their own homes. So, this year, we're going to introduce our Gala Dinner guests to home-cooking Angus-style by featuring a dish which is regularly made and enjoyed by a local family, whether it's a particularly tasty tattie soup, a different way with Arbroath Smokies, a new way to use the delicious berries which are grown in the fields of Angus - or perhaps even a Haggis curry!"
The winning recipe will also appear on the Tartan Day Scotland website so it can be cooked in kitchens all over the world during the week of Tartan Day celebrations, which run from April 3 until April 10.
Recipes - along with name, address and, if under 18, age - should be submitted by email to tartanday@angusahead.com. By submitting a recipe, applicants agree to their recipe being featured on the Tartan Day Angus website and adapted for use at the Tartan Day Scotland Gala Dinner and that the recipe is their copyright.
The deadline for submitting entries is Wednesday the 31st of March.
